AA/PI/SWANA YEC June 7th, 2024 from 6-9 pm at the C9/John R. Lewis Multipurpose Room

1) Know the Difference Between GRADUATION and the YEAR END CEREMONY 

AAPIRC's Year End Ceremony (YEC) and graduation from UCSC are two separate things.

• At UCSC, graduation is the act of conferring an academic degree – receiving your degree or diploma.

• YEC is a sashing ceremony, where you walk across the stage, symbolizing the end of your undergraduate career.

Graduation and the Ceremony have separate online processes and timelines.

Graduation

Apply to graduate (degree completion and diploma) for the quarter in which you will be finishing your graduation requirements. DO NOT apply to graduate for Spring if you will be finishing your final graduation requirements in a subsequent quarter.

To apply to graduate, you must submit an application via your Student Portal by the posted deadlines to announce candidacy. There is more information about how to apply to graduate on the Registrar’s Office website.

Year End Ceremony

Open to all graduating seniors who completed their course work Fall 2023, Winter 2024 or will be completing their courses by Spring 2024, Summer 2024, and Fall 2024. Seniors who will be graduating any time after Fall 2024 will need to wait for the 2025 Year End Ceremony. 

2) Register Online for the Year End Ceremony: Register by May 1st to Guarantee a Sash

Visit this page to register for the 2024 Year End Ceremony. PLEASE NOTE: You must be signed into your UCSC gmail account to access the form (Google Chrome users, ensure you are logged into your ucsc gmail account on your browser). 3) Order Your Cap & Gown

Beginning mid-late April (Announcements, etc. optional) 
Order your Caps & Gowns, Announcements and other items at the Bay Tree Bookstore Graduation Center. You may order many items, including your regalia, at the Bookstore website. If you choose to purchase announcements, you are strongly advised to place your order at least five weeks ahead of the commencement ceremony to receive them on time.

Your cap and gown will be made available for pickup at the Baytree Bookstore. Please check bookstore website for detailed times and information.

4) Make Sure You Receive Email Updates and Pick-up Parking Passes, Week 10.

Emails will be sent regularly after the registration deadline has passed. If you have not received a follow-up email with detailed information on the Year End Ceremony by the end of May, email aapirc@ucsc.edu. 

All seniors who registered for YEC will be issued a maximum of two parking pemits, an email will go out letting seniors know when permits are available for pick up. To pick up your permit(s) you must come to the Ethnic Resource Centers Front Desk (3rd Floor of the Bay Tree Building) and show photo I.D. If you have family or guests who have trouble walking far or requires disability parking access, please email aapirc@ucsc.edu to request parking accommodations.
