Learn About AANAPISI

What is an AANAPISI?
To be designated an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) means a college or university has at least 10% of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) students and provides targeted support and resources to this student population. It’s a federal designation from the U.S. Department of Education that comes with grant opportunities and the obligation to improve outcomes for AANHPI students.
These grant opportunities provide funding to increase educational access, promote culturally-relevant learning and support programs, and make a positive impact on student success and experiences, especially for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students.
UC Santa Cruz holds the distinction of being one of only four members of the Association of American Universities (AAU) designated both as an Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI), highlighting our commitment to equitable educational access and research excellence.
